Darren was born on December 20th, in Nassau, Bahamas. His parents Arlington and Fay Greene, both natives of the island of Jamaica, West Indies, moved to Nassau to work in the Lord’s vineyard. As they did so, they provided their children with an environment rich in love, encouragement and music appreciation.
That appreciation for music soon blossomed into a fervent love of music. After moving with his family to New York City, formal music lessons followed at the young age of 10. It was during this time that Darren realized that his instrument of choice would be his natural tenor voice, his special gift from God. He soon started singing in a quartet with his brothers. Four years later, joined by three other young men, this group flourished into the famed “Heralds of Joy.” Their uncommon and unique five, six and sometimes seven part harmony set them apart from others. The Heralds of Joy afforded Darren the opportunity to sing on various stages from Maine to California as well as several Caribbean islands. In the late 1970’s, shortly after recording an album entitled “Go Tell It On The Mountain,” the group separated as the members, one by one, left to further their education at colleges and universities across the United States.
As Darren matured, music continued to play a large part in his life, increasingly becoming his passion and ministry. College offered more opportunity to grow spiritually, mentally and musically. While working on a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration at Atlantic Union College in South Lancaster, Massachusetts, he polished his talent through active participation in choirs and quartets, in addition to solo performances.
Darren’s hobbies include exercise, singing, most sports and teaching children. A large portion of his time is dedicated to the youth of the local community. His favorite Bible texts include Philippians 4:13 and Proverbs 22:6, both of which have provided continued strength and direction at different times of his life. The artists who have most influenced Darren’s musical preferences are Singers Unlimited, the original Breath of Life Quartet, Paul Carpenter, Take 6, Billy Joel, David Foster and a host of other great musicians and performers.
His mission is to use his special gift to carry the love of Christ to all people through the universal medium of music. 7th Element is the vehicle for achieving this mission.
Home for Darren and his wife, Jeannette, is Mt. Dora, Florida, a suburb of Orlando. Darren is in the field of information technology and is employed by a national medical management corporation. Jeannette is a legal assistant for a leading company in the hospitality industry.
